This was my very first audiobook and the beginning of a love affair for listening to books.

I read, or sorry, listened to this one back in February, but the story still lingers in my mind. Itโ€™s an unlikely story about second chances and finding love in unexpected places. Kenna is a very relatable character with many flaws. All she wants is to meet her daughter. A daughter who was taken away at birth because they donโ€™t let inmates raise their children.

One big mistake changed Kennaโ€™s life forever. I loved how we got to know more about the past through letters Kenna writes to her boyfriend, Scotty. His death is the reason she went to prison; every day she misses him, she agonizes over his death. You can feel Kenna's pain as she remembers Scotty and who he was to her.

When Kenna is back in town, no one recognizes her right away, including Scottyโ€™s best friend who Kenna has never met before. Their relationship is a whirlwind. Ledger is a good dude. Like this wholesome, wonderful, caring, amazingly good dude who has become like a father to Kenna and Scottyโ€™s daughter. Itโ€™s freaking adorable getting to know Ledger when heโ€™s with Diem.

The climax to the story is resolved pretty quickly with a speedy happy ending thatโ€™s pretty satisfying, but I do feel like something was missing between the climax and the ending.

There is one scene I just canโ€™t get out of my head. The scene after Kenna reads Ledger one of her letters. It just tears at my soul. The letter, finding out the truth of what happened the night Scotty died, Ledgerโ€™s reaction. So emotional, so heart-crushing, so good.
