⭐⭐⭐⭐
There was a little twist in the plot of this book where I made an audible “oh shit” in front of my son. I love when books can catch me by surprise. But what I loved most about this book was the honesty coming from the two main characters. They come with a lot of baggage but instant attraction. The burn is slow, very slow, and could have used a bit more spice. But that’s just me, I like spicy.
Still, I loved Donovan and Anneliese’s story. I loved their characters. Two sweet humans who have lived through hell, had terrible things done to them, but still turned out to be decent, caring people. I love them for it.
At times, it was hard to get into Donovan’s head, even during his POV because he’s been keeping a secret for most of his life. A secret that isn’t his, but one that defines him. When everything comes to light, I just want to hug him. And Anneliese is his perfect counterpart. Patient. Honest. Caring. Everything he needed.
And the ending was just so beautiful. A perfect happy ending.
